Choosing A Bathroom Faucet

Bathroom faucets have come a long way. Today, bath faucets are available in endless
styles and finishes giving you a world of bathroom faucet design options. From vintage
to ultra modern or somewhere in between, there is a faucet design and style that will
complement your bathroom makeover and satisfy your budget. Some faucet makers
even offer collections of accessory items that will match will choice of faucets creating
a consistent design theme.
Things To Consider.
Choosing the right faucet for your bathroom is not a simple decision. Not only should
the choice of faucets fulfill design theme expectations, but must consider convenience,
function, water-saving features and budget. Size and style of bathroom vanities,
bath sinks, type of countertops, bathtubs and shower configurations all have a bearing on
the type of faucet that will be needed. For example, a vessel type sink versus an inset
sink typically will require a different faucet configuration. Some sinks may require a
wall-mounted faucet and a typical clawfoot standalone bathtub may require a floor
mounted faucet.
Do not rush your faucet decision. It's best to decide what type and size of vanity,
bathtub and sink is preferred before deciding on a faucet design and style. The type
and color of countertops may also effect the type of faucet finish you choose. Visit
bathroom showrooms where you can experience a wide variety of options. A safe
approach is purchasing your sinks and faucets at the same place so you can have the
confidence of proper fit.
Visit major manufacturers websites such as Delta, Moen, Price Pfister, Kohler,
American Standard and others where you will not only discover the latest and
greatest, but get some detailed product information as well. All the manufacturers
now offer water-saving, eco-friendly faucets featuring style and beauty.
If you are planning a complete bathroom remodel and you have limited interior design
experience, consider hiring an interior designer that specializes in bathrooms. If they
are accomplished experts, they will not only give you great ideas, but their knowledge
will help insure against costly mistakes.
Types of Faucets.
Not all bathroom faucets are compatible with all vanities, sinks or bathtubs. If you have
already selected your vanity, countertop, sink and tub, you will need to match the type
of faucet to those items.

Center Set Faucet. This is the most often used type of faucet and is most ideal with
smaller vanities since they are the most compact of faucets. The faucet spout and two
control knobs are one piece. The center set requires three drilled holes generally four inches apart.
Single Hole Faucet. The faucet and a single handle fits into a single drilled hole. The
handle is lifted up or side-to-side to control hot and cold water flow.
Wall Mounted Faucets. This type of faucet is often required for vessel sinks and
wall-mounted sinks. The spout and handles are attached to the wall above the sink and
therefore do not require drilled holes in the vanity or countertop.
Wide Mount Faucets. The spout and handles are three separate pieces and are affixed
to three different drilled holes that can be placed as far apart or as close together as preferred.
This style of faucet affords the greatest flexibility but requires a medium to large vanity and
countertop. The height of the spout is an important consideration, particularly with vessel
sinks to comfortably permit hands under the flow of water.
Choosing a single-handle or two-handle faucet design is personal preference. Single-handle
faucets permit quick and easy adjustment of water flow and water temperature with one hand
and one single motion. Two-handle faucet styles allow greater design flexibility and offer a
greater range of style designs and finishes.
Electronic Faucets.
Some faucet manufacturers, such as Delta, have introduced Electronic Automated Faucets
for residential use that feature hands-free on/off activation. They offer many benefits including
convenience and water conservation. Maximum water temperatures can be set ensuring a
safe level for children. The hands-free feature helps reduce the spread of germs. Electronic
controlled faucets are ideal for families with small children.
